FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

Graduating seniors residing in and attending a Clay County, Florida high school. This applies to virtual and homeschooled students as well.

No. While we welcome and encourage all to join, an active NAACP membership is not required for the student or parent/guardian.

Applicants must plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, technical or vocational program, or trade school. The school does not have to be in Florida.

You may still be considered if you can show significant academic improvement. Include documentation such as recent transcripts or report cards, an upward grade trend, or a statement or recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or school administrator.

No. You may show extracurricular activities, community service, or both. Employment, caregiving, church involvement, athletics, performing arts, leadership, and other meaningful commitments may also be considered.

Yes. Provide the information currently available and update the committee if your plans change. Final enrollment information will be required before funds are disbursed.

Materials may include the application, transcript or GPA verification, essay or personal statement, recommendations, and information about activities, service, leadership, employment, or honors.

Yes. They may help gather documents, review instructions, and proofread. The student’s written responses and essays should still reflect the student’s own experiences and voice.

No. Applicants are responsible for submitting all required materials by the deadline. If a required document is delayed for reasons outside the applicant’s control, contact the committee as soon as possible.

Yes. Interviews are part of the selection process. Selected applicants will receive instructions from the scholarship committee.

Eligible expenses include tuition, mandatory institutional fees, required textbooks or course materials, required technology or equipment, and uniforms or supplies.

No, unless specifically approved by the committee. Funds may not be used for housing, transportation, meal plans, personal expenses, student loan payments, or costs not directly required for enrollment or program completion.

The scholarship may be used for remaining eligible educational expenses not covered by grants, scholarships, or other financial aid, subject to the institution’s financial-aid policies.

Recipients must provide proof of enrollment and the institution’s payment information. A tuition statement, invoice, or itemized list of required expenses may also be requested.

Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s accredited college, university, technical school, vocational program, or trade school after enrollment is verified. Funds will not be paid directly to the student.

You may still apply. The award may only cover eligible educational expenses not already covered. If all eligible expenses are fully covered, the award must be returned directly to the scholarship organization for the next application cycle and may not be issued to the student.

The scholarship may be forfeited if you do not enroll by the required deadline. Any refund resulting from withdrawal will need to be returned and will not be issued to the student.

Deferral requests will be reviewed under the scholarship program’s policies. Contact the committee at education.claycofl@gmail.com before assuming an award can be held for a later term.
